We are happy to receive one-off small food donations from the public or bulk food donations from companies or other organisations. We are not in a position to handle nor distribute cooked or perishable foods unless you have some baking that can be frozen, but we’d love to hear from you if you could help by donating any of the following:
- fresh fruit and vegetables
- non-perishable food items such as:
- canned fruit
- canned vegetables (green beans, corn, tomatoes)
- canned fish
- rice and pasta
- spreads (marmite, peanut butter)
- toiletries such as shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrushes, tampons and pads, soap and moisturizer.
The NZ Food Network, Kore Hiakai Zero Hunger Collective, Aotearoa Food Rescue Alliance support the more established food banks through the likes of organisation like Fair Food and Kiwi Harvest. These organisations distribute food and general supplies throughout the year to community food banks but they are not able to support Community Support Waitakere because other food banks receive all they can offer and more, so they have opted to not onboard new food banks like us. We have effectively missed out completely on receiving any food support like most other food banks receive. Ironically, we have continued to help other food banks by donating bulk supplies, which we have had to purchase with our funds.
We rely purely on the Aroha and goodwill of people in the community to donate food however this has been few and far apart. Instead we have been forced to use our funds purchase supplies, most of which have been paid out of a personal credit card.
If you have something to spare, something to share, or something to show you care then please get in contact with us: [email protected]
Otherwise, if you cannot offer anything in kind them please consider helping to fund our charity work with a donation: click here
